Located in the South of Gironde, between Bazas, Langon and La Réole, Pondaurat owes its foundation to the installation of an Antonine Order in the thirteenth century.

Crossed by the Bassanne stream , one finds the oldest Aquitaine bridge-dam which, due to the colour of its stones , gave its name to the town : Ponte Aurat (golden bridge in Gascon ) became Pondaurat.
